Once our group arrived we hit the ground running ! We checked out the site for a home we are building and took measurements before coming back later in the day to pour concrete footings to keep the home from sinking. Speaking of sinking …. I didn’t get a pic but stories were told of Todd B sinking up to his knee when he stepped a little outside the lines . At our second site the gang jumped right into building the platform for a small home and bathrooms . Back at the Divine Mercy Church we had a crew priming sliding boards ( to be painted in the days to come ) for the homes . Amid all this work we had some delicious food , met a few locals ( Katie was a hit with the kids immediately) gained a few helpers and of course kept Christ as our center in all that we do . Although our Midwest bodies are not quite ready for the heat & humidity we always have time to spend sharing the Rosary with each other . May our Lord watch over us as we sleep and be with us as we do his work . Th
We were blessed to start our day with Holy Mass at Divine Mercy church with Father Scott and Deacon Little John presiding. It was great to share this time with local families & children. After a quick breakfast we were off !! The men to continue the platform/ floor of the house The women to continuing to paint the siding boards ( about 150) . Our last team made 6 benches to be used as pews in the church our team built last year. Although it was very hot we all felt greatful to get all that we planned done today . We have 14 in our group but our two new friends make 16 Lorenzo,a young man on his own mission and Jayden a local teen . Both of who have been so helpful in many ways and seem to fit right in with our motley crew . Some of us took in a local restaurant for dinner while others needed to chill and wash the dirt & sawdust from…..Everywhere!! Things are going we thank you for your continued prayers.
Our day started early with a beautiful Mass @ 6:00am After a quick breakfast the plan was set on who would work at which spot . One crew went to the home by “the swamp or the red house “ where we leveled the ground with ALOT of fill dirt to stop the sinking and make it ready for the platform/ floor that went up later in the day . It was hot , heavy & heartfelt work to get a home built for a great young man named Epsinon who is wheelchair bound but had the biggest smile when we passed out shoes & clothes for him and his family members . He was also excited about the color of his new home , Sunny yellow . Our second crew was busy at the home near the church where walls and roof beams were put into place . The siding that our ladies crew painted will be ready to put on those walls tomorrow! Caribbean blue for one and Sunny yellow for the other. Our last crew was in charge of building 2 closet/ sacristy at the church we built last year . The walls went up beautifully with smil
